Block UserI suppose I could go a little deeper than my initial post. I'm Lord Corrigan MacKenzie, and though I'm primarily a SCA-dian, I have pretty hefty ties to the local Ren Fest, the Great Plains Renaissance Festival. Not only is the head of the Fest one of my closest friends, I'm also the graphic designer for the festival, creating all the nifty posters and promotions materials for the last five years or so. And it is one of the best, and most SCA-friendly Ren Fests I've ever been to.
As for the SCA, I've played for 12 years, living in the Barony of Vatavia, in the Kingdom of Calontir. Playing a 16th century Highlander, I've been a scribe and illuminator in my time, as well as an archer, tailor, and fighter. Ah fighting...the thing that I never expected to do and in fact I initially said I never would (but then I said I'd never dress late period either) but is now the activity I love the most... along with making a lot of *ahem* late-period garb. :-) I've also held the baronial offices of Chronicler, Deputy Seneschal, and Seneschal...and nothing makes you feel like you've been around a while than being a Baronial Seneschal. Yah Drama! But holding that office was one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done in the Society.
Unfortunately, I've had something else take precedence over my SCA fun the last year and a half...and that's being the artist on a Viking-themed comic book, SAGA: Dawn of the New Viking Age. And though it happens to be set in the near post-apocalyptic future -- think Beowulf meets Mad Max -- a lot of the storyline is inspired by the writer's own experiences in the SCA, as well as from old Norse myths and sagas. It's a damn good comic if I do say so myself. If anyone is interested, the website is www.blackravensaga.com and yes, yes I am a shameless self-promoter when it comes to the comic book. :-)
